Restless leg syndrome or RLS is a neurological disorder in which you may feel distressing and uncomfortable urge to move the legs causing sense of discomfort and pain in legs especially your calf.
Usually it happens in both legs but can be in one leg also.
What is the cause and age group of this problem?
It is neurological problem, occurs because of dysfunction of neurotransmitter like dopamine.
It also occurs or runs in families.
It is aggravated by iron deficiency in your body
Usually it is seen in the middle and elderly age group.
What you feel when you have a RLS?
You can feel like severe urge to move your legs, you can feel tingling, aching, cramping, creeping and/or crawling type of sensation and pain in your calf and legs.
Almost always happen while taking rest or lying down position.
Several patients gets massage or can tie a cloth or dupatta over calf area or many times tell their kids to press or stand over legs to get some relief.
How to improve or treat RLS?
Try to improve your sleep quality (like:- Take warm water bath before sleep , Try to sleep for 7-8 hrs daily, Do a mind distraction activities before sleep like stretching, yoga or relaxation exercises).
Increase iron containing food in your diet to correct or improve your iron. ( green vegetable, beetroot, apple etc..)
Consult your doctor if you have problem in your legs despite all the above measures.
Doctor will examine and may suggest you few specific exercises and specific medicines for a short period of time to treat this problem and also in case of low iron, doctor may advise you to take specific medicines to correct the same.
